煮東西的鍋，自古以来常常被使用来進行傳授不可思議的咒力的儀式。;而在日本古代有很多的祭祀活動和咒術活動也都離不開鍋這個載體，因此鍋在日本古代人心中是很神聖的東西。據說祭典巡行時,若把鍋子頂在頭上,就不會受到神明的處罰。姑娘們把鍋頂在頭上時，會有奇特的男子出現，假如說謊，姑娘便會受到逞罰。孩子们如果頂着它，便不會生病而健康的生活。而如果用高級的鍋子煮粗糙的食物,就會出現這種妖怪把人的靈魂吊在鍋子上煮!
